Rock’n Music Idol 2011 Finalists Selected!

After two intense rounds of auditions, Rock’n Music Idol is down to 12 finalists! All 12 finalists will perform live at the Rock’n Music Idol 2011 finale on Saturday, June 11th. The 2011 finalists are:Grace   Monteleone, Micaela Diamond, Emily Bennett, Ryan Karg, Shannon McBride, Kayla Raparelli, Jillian Mueller, Kelly Smith, Kyle Jones, Michael Coiro, Will Kashdan, and Dan Rogers. Congratulations to all of this year’s finalists!    

Rock’n Music Idol is open to New Jersey musicians ages 7-17.    


Rock’n Music Idol Categories

Contestants may enter in one or more of the following categories:

  • Vocals & Instrument

     

Past winners of Rock’n Music Idol may only enter to compete in an instrumental category other than the one they were selected as a winner in. For example, a contestant that won in the vocal category may enter in the guitar or vocal/instrument category. Finalists that were not selected as winners are eligible to compete again in the same instrumental category.

Rock’n Music Idol 2011 Entry Deadline: Friday, April 8th 2011

-Please enter early to secure an audition.
-Audition updates are communicated to contestants via e-mail. So please make sure that the e-mail you provide is one that you check regularly.    


Audition Rounds

There are 3 rounds of auditions in Rock’n Music Idol:    

  • Preliminary Auditions
  • Semi-Final Auditions
  • Live Finale

1. Preliminary Audition Round
Once entered, contestants can audition on any one of the three pre-liminary audition dates:    

Saturday, April 9th 2011 ( all instrument categories)
or
Sunday, April 10th 2011 (all instrument categories)
or
Saturday, April 16th 2011 (all instrument categories)    

Time: all auditions begin at 2 p.m. Contestants may begin lining up at 1 p.m.    

Location: All auditions are held at Rock’n Music Academy, located at 502 highway 35 south in Middletown, and are done on a first come first serve basis. Click here for directions.

-Contestants do not have to sign up for an audition day. Simply report on your selected day.
-If you will be auditioning in multiple instrument categories (i.e. guitar and vocals) you may do all of your auditions on the same day.
-Contestants are required to be accompanied by a parent or guardian at the auditions. Auditions will last until all contestants have auditioned.

 
 
 
 
 

Pre-liminary Audition FAQ’s

How long is the audition: Each contestant has a maximum of 1 minute during their audition. 
What can I perform in my audition: Contestants may use the audition time as they wish. You can perform a cover song, an original tune, or even a scale, exercise, or technique. Contestants may perform any style of music (rock, pop, classical, blues, etc.) that they wish for their audition.    

Are the auditions accompanied?: Guitar, bass, drum, and keyboard/piano auditions are done unaccompanied (without backing instruments) and vocal auditions are done accapella (just vocals). The vocals/instrument audition category is for contestants who wish to sing and play the guitar, bass, or keyboard/piano.    

How will contestants be judged: contestants will be judged by a panel of professional musicians based on style, originality, technique, and star quality.    

What equipment is provided at the auditions?:
– Guitar Amplifier (with clean and distortion) + input cable
-Drum kit (5 piece set with double bass pedal)
-Keyboard (with foot pedals)
– Bass Amplifier + input cable    

Can guitarists use pedals?: Guitarists are not permitted to use any type of pedal or foot switch. This is to keep all contestants on a level playing field and keep the auditions moving at a steady pace.    

How many contestants will be selected to move on? A group of contestants in each instrument category will be selected to move on to the semi-finals. The number varies from year to year, depending on how many contestants enter the competition.    

Where will the results be posted? The names of the contestants selected to move on will be posted on RocknMusicIdol.com during the week following the last preliminary audition.    



2. The Semi-Finals
Contestants selected for the semi-finals will go through a second round of auditions. Specific audition requirements for the semi-final audition round and additional details will be posted once the sem-finalists are selected. The semi-final audition dates are as follows:
Similar to the pre-liminary round, semi-finalists may audition on any one of the following audition days:    
Saturday, April 30th 2011 ( all instrument categories)
or
Sunday, May 1st 2011 (all instrument categories)    
Time: all auditions begin at 7 p.m. Contestants may begin lining up at 6 p.m.
Location: All auditions are held at Rock’n Music Academy, located at 502 highway 35 south in Middletown, and are done on a first come first serve basis. Click here for directions. Click here for directions.    

Following the semi-final auditions, a group of finalists will be selected by the judges to perform at the live finale. The finalists will be announced on www.RocknMusicIdol.com during the week following the last semi-final audition day.    


3. The Live Finale
Rock’n Music Idol culminates with an exciting live finale show! During the finale all the finalists perform in front of a live audience and a panel of professional judges. Prior to the finale there will be a set of rehearsals to prepare the finalists for the live finale. Rehearsal dates are T.B.A. At the live finale, the finalists will perform and winners of Rock’n Music Idol 2010 will be selected. Date: Saturday, June 11th 2011

The Goals Of Rock’n Music Idol

Rock’n Music Idol is designed to encourage aspiring musicians to work hard and give them experience with an audition process. Auditions are common in the music industry and it takes practice to excel during auditions.    

Ultimately, the competition is designed to give the winning musicians the opportunity to be in the spotlight, gain exposure, and record a professional song.    


Tips For The Auditions

  • The judges are looking for musicians with style and something unique. Technique is important, but the judges want to see originality and passion.
  • Prepare for the auditions. Put thought into selecting the material you will perform at the auditions. The material you select should highlight your talents and bring out your strong musical qualities. Work hard at mastering the material you have chosen to perform at the audition.
  • Most important, be yourself and have some fun!
